Becky R.:
"I really loved the Sunshine program because of the family atmosphere. It was apparent from day one that our teacher really loved each and every student."

"Sunshine Kindergarten is a great program.  My daughter went in with beginning reading skills and emerged reading at a first grade level.  She loved going to school and was happy everyday when I picked her up."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • Q: Why should I consider private Kindergarten over public?
A: There are so many answers to this question, and we've tried to outline the differences in our private vs. public approach below. Above all, please remember that when it comes to your child's education, you're not limited to just a public education.  You are in control of your child's future!
  • Q: What's wrong with the Kuna public Kindergarten schedule?
A: When we were children, we went to Kindergarten every day, Monday through Friday, for a half-day class.  Not only was it important back then, it's even more crucial now, as Kindergarten is where your child starts reading and basic arithmetic. Surely your child needs a consistent learning schedule now more than ever!  However, after all the budget cuts in the past 5 years, Kuna's public Kindergarten program is now M_W_F full day one week, T_TH full day the next week. Our Private Kindergarten brings back the traditional 5-day/week half-day schedule.
  • Q: How many students will be in my child's class?
A: Unlike the public school that can have up to 30 students per class, we cap our class at just 18 students. This small class size allows our teacher to spend daily 1-1 time with your child.  Also, unlike other programs in Kuna, we don't mix preschoolers and Kindergartners in class.  Our Kindergarten class is dedicated solely to our Kindergartners.
  • Q: Can my child attend if his/her birthday is after Sept. 1?
A: If your child misses the public school's Kindergarten deadline (must be 5 by Sept. 1st) they may may be able to attend our Kindergarten if they will be 5 by Oct. 31 -AND- meet our requirements for Kindergarten readiness.  (Please call if you have questions; we're happy to assess your child to see if they're eligible for our program.)

  • Q: If my child misses the cutoff, can they go to 1st grade the next year?
A: If your child misses the Sept. 1 public Kindergarten deadline but successfully completes our Private Kindergarten, your child can advance right into 1st grade inside the Kuna School District.  Because our academic standards are so high, the district knows that any child who completes our Private Kindergarten will have a solid academic foundation and excel in 1st grade.  We handle the entire process so all you have to do is fill out a registration form for 1st grade; we do the rest!

  • Q: What experience does your teacher have?
A: Our Kindergarten teacher has 4 years of experience teaching.  Your child will not only be cognitively prepared for 1st grade by the end of our program, but much more prepared socially, emotionally, and physically as well.

  • Q: Will my child get a better education at Sunshine?
A: Absolutely. You may not know this little-known fact, but Idaho's public schools have a goal that 60% of their Kindergarteners will be reading at or above grade level when they finish Kindergarten (Source: Idaho Reading Indicator.) So that begs the question: What if your child was one of the 40% who moves onto 1st Grade unprepared?  Would they struggle every year?  At Sunshine, we pride ourselves that 100% of our Kindergartners leave our program reading at or above grade level! Truly, if you want your child to get the best foundation for future schooling success, you'll take them to Sunshine.  We are confident in our ability to create superior results.

  • Q: When is Kindergarten Registration in Kuna?
A: Our Kuna Kindergarten Registration fills up fast!  It's usually best to call us as soon as you even think about registering for Kindergarten so we can give you a tour and reserve your spot.
  • Q: Are there additional fees during the year?
A: No.  Unlike other schools, your child won't pay anything to attend our field trips. And your family can come for free too! Your child will also receive at no extra cost: a Sunshine shirt to wear on Spirit Day and a graduation portfolio!
